Styles Of Vertical Window Blinds

Vertical window blinds come in a large variety of styles, sizes and materials. Some are even motorized for ease in operation. They provide an effective shield for privacy and can allow you to open them to let in just enough sunlight to brighten your home or kept closed for all day privacy.  Many of these are available from local retailers although some must be custom made and should be purchased from a blinds specialty retailer. The prices of vertical blinds will vary depending on the materials used in their construction, size and style of blinds you choose. This style of blind provides you with a contemporary style that goes with any décor you have.

Many of the vertical window blinds are available in faux wood designs like the Lewis Hyman 2” Faux Wood Blinds in white. They measure 35” x 64” and can be mounted inside your window sill or outside. They will not warp, crack or split like real wood blinds and they are easier to clean. They are available at brandsplace.com. There are many faux wood styles to choose from such as bamboo, oak, cedar, pine and many others.

Levolor® has a large selection of blinds to choose from including aluminum and fabric blinds. The Levolor® Vinyl Vertical Blind S-Curved West Coast blinds are flame resistant and made of 100% solid PVC. They come with a heavy-duty anodized aluminum headrail and Delrin vane stems from blindsgalore.com for $54.40. Other brands of vertical blinds include L.A. and Hunter Douglas to just name a couple. All have competitive prices and have very high quality products. In fact Hunter Douglas® sells their blinds in a variety of colors and styles including the Somner collection made of aluminum. They come in three colors and are available from blindsgalore.com for $103.70.

Fabric blinds are great ideas a replacement for curtains or drapes. L.A. Fabric Vertical Blinds from overstock.com come in 52” widths x any custom length in alabaster, black, blue jewel, ivory, maple nut and white for $69.99. These are a modern variant to drapery or curtains and can be used for a patio door or a large picture window. These can be sheer or blackout blinds. Linen is also a popular look for blinds. The Linen-Look Vinyl Vertical Blinds from jcpenny.com rotate 180° to allow the maximum amount of light to filter through. They come in alabaster, light beige, taupe and white for $69.00.

The Whole Space Bamboo Panel Track is a wider blind than the ordinary blinds. They are actually panels that make up the blind consisting of at least four panels. The panels rotate just like regular vertical window blinds and can be found at meijer.com for $55.99. If you are looking for more of a thermal style of blind consider using cellular blinds which provide you with a small amount of insulation within the cells. If you can’t find what you are looking for at local retailers there are a lot of blinds that can be purchased from online retailers at a discount.

Spring has just arrived and I've decided to do some home improvements. I just found out that patio door vertical window blinds are now being sold as motorized versions so that they are easier to operate and less hassle for homeowners.

Vinyl vertical window blinds are still the most popular choice, even with fabric and many other materials to choose from. Faux wood vertical window blinds are becoming more popular in kitchen areas as well as linen areas for a homey feel.

Some modern, residential vertical window blinds are comprised of faux wood. This means that they look like wood and even have a wood grain but are usually molded in vinyl material.

A great replacement for curtains or drapes is fabric vertical window blinds. These can be sheer to allow light to filter through or blackout that allows no light at all.

Correction to the Whole Space Bamboo Panel Track. We just purchased these. They do not rotate like regular vertical blinds. They only slide open and closed with a wand like regular verticals. Concerning price- We paid about $113.30 with tax and shipping (Mar 2010). This was an approx. 40% off sale price for 78" x 84" (for sliding patio door).
